My LBS is SOOOO cheap!!!

Still need to learn how to true/build wheels..and want several headset tools for the twice a decade I would need them..apart from that...do it all myself...half the fun.

As Orange71 said if you want to bodge it right , do it yourself .

I even paint my frames with spray cans from halfords .

I'm with gump. The only person I really trust with my bikes is me.

There are two others who are allowed to touch them from time to time (only really tricky stuff - namely wheels): Sam at Sett Valley is allowed to touch my road bike(he has fettled for Rob Hayles and David Millar), Andy Kyffin (has fettled a bike or three) is allowed to touch my Pace. Pretty lucky to have such fine fettlers close by I suppose.

Yup, me too.
I'm also with Orange71 in that I'm an unbelievable skinflint, but more than that, I simply don't trust 'em! Seen too many cock-ups on other people's bikes. I'm the same with cars - do all my own servicing & as many repairs as possible.

Build up a good relationship with you LBS and good things can come your way.

Before my local shop shut up due to owners retirement/ill health as a valued customer I got three seized B/B removed and replaced (risks of 2nd hand bike purchase) for cost of parts only, no labour charges. One even required blacksmithing but the smithy owed the mechanic a favour and thus no charge.

Often got second hand parts or parts he deemed unsaleable in the local market place for free.

I miss that guy !!!!!!!!!
