My Fuquay project

Re:

WOW!

That is a great way to get an equally great bike.

Who are you going to get to do the paint?

The only reason I ask (especially given your family connection) is because I know Argos in Bristol have the correct decals.

My mtb doesn't have decals, the name and logos appear to have been applied as stencils after the primer and a base coat (or two) of silver were sprayed. The top coats of blue / black were applied and then the stencils removed. By the look of it lacquer was than applied over it all.... classy.

Keep us posted on the rebuild please, by the sounds of it, it will be quite something.

Re:

I am in ipswich, I haven't really thought of who is going to paint it yet but I'll certainly bear them in mind! I will keep you posted with any progress, I also have access to a fuquay mtb via the same source but that will be the next project.

I know a car body shop based in Martlesham that 'may' be able to assist, PM me if you want their details!

After speaking to Greg yesterday he says that this bike is "at least 18-20 years old" but is going to try and cast his memory back with some exact dates and some more history on it.

that would make sense, i believe he returned to the states about 15 years ago
he had one of my frames at the time for a refurb

I'm torn between turning it into a single speed or keeping it as it is!

If, as the photo suggests it has vertical rear dropouts then conversion to single speed may prove difficult to get correct chain tension......horizontal dropouts allow the neccessary adjustment
