My '91 Explosif - help required!

I've finally decided to restore my old '91 Explosif with Manitou 2s. Is basically stock, but in dire need of some TLC. Cables, brake pads etc will all be replaced first.

I was wondering if I could get some help/advice on some other bits? First thing I need is a new seat post - what diameter do I need to go for? 27mm?

Also - there are some spots of rust around worn areas (from tyres, cables etc) - should I be worried about this? Anything I could do - paint over? Any other parts of the frame I should watch out for? No noticeable cracks so far. Maybe I could get some photos up if that is useful to you.

There are also a pair of X-Lite handlebars (purple, natch) on it - I presume that these will need to be replaced because of fatigue issues? (they are from 1992). The stem is also pretty old (Zoom) and there are small patches of rust - replace as well?

Think 27.0 is a good bet for your seatpost as my '95 Kilauea is 27.0

Wouldn't be too sure its 27.0mm, they have been known to be 26.8mm and 26.6mm too. Checking the old one with a vernier is the best bet.
You may also find the seat clamp is not the expected 28.6mm like the front mech and more like 29.8mm

In fact having just looked at mine again I reckon the 26.4 is slightly too small so could well be 26.6 or 26.8

I'd agree with Huntso - my '93 and '94 Cinder Cones are 26.6mm seatposts and 28.6mm front mech/seat clamps.

Just to add to the confusion, a 26.8 Thomson seems to fit MY 95 Kilauea perfectly... :?
