This thread is ace. The best Konas you own there.

This is the next one to join the thread :)

This is what i'm starting with, frame needs a good clean and touched up,previous owner must of replaced the cindercone sticker so i'm going to splat them with red paint. Using a 1990 velocity stem and i like the look of the matt grey Deore ll U-brake and cantilevers. So let's see where this build ends up :D

Re:

First stage of the explosifs overhaul finished today, finally had some time to give it a good clean and polish to make it nice and shiny. So stage two next,a little bit of touch up then add some nice shiny new Deore ll parts, there's a couple of quick pics below.

Re:

Thought i'd give my fingers a rest from cleaning and polishing and decide on the parts and look for the build.

I remembered i had some Deore MT60 parts and especially the thumbshifters with the ghost 7th click so that started the idea of building it this way. Overall i'm happy with the way it's turned out with the parts and the look of the bike. The only thing i'm going to change is the black seatpost for a silver one to go with the Rolls saddle and there's a satin coloured Tange headset in the post.

Now back to stripping it down and finishing off cleaning the frame to reveal more of the yellow splatter and touch up all the marks. Then give all the parts a good polish and it'll be ready to be built up :D

  it's been my goal for a long time to get all 7 built up and get them altogether for a group photo,it should look pretty special :D
I've something up my sleeve at the end of all these builds but that's all i say at the minute :D

Here's a couple more of the Fire Mountain, the forks mmmm, previous owner said they were original but even threw rose tinted glasses i'm sure Kona didn't use freeway ones which is what's on the steerer. I might use them but probably not  I think project 2's would look good though if can find any.

Re:

Well might aswell start the 1990 Fire Mountain saying the 89 Fire mountain has ground to a sudden halt. So far i've tried four different forks and there all just a fraction to short :x
Konas must have longer than normal headtubes coz the 89's only a 16" and the forks i tried were from larger bikes,80's Raleigh Chill nope,80's Diamond back nope, orange clockwork nope, GT nope, some tange forks nope.... So nowts getting done to it till i find some 1" steerer Project twos with around 150mm steerer length or something similar.

So next on the production line is the 1990 Fire Mountain. This is what i'm starting with,i'll strip it down and give it a clean and see what build ideas pop into my head in the meantime.

Re:

My new headset press arrived today :) Should of bought myself one ages ago,so much quicker and cheaper in the long run than keep taking it to the LBS. So let's get building the cindercone,DX headset is in,bb is in and it's all nicely cleaned and polished very happy with the outcome, now to get the parts on.
