Yay, get those Bluemels Mountain Guards on; and while you're at it fit that Blackburn Mountain Rack too.

I keep seeing lots of very lovely bikes built up by British forum members
Nice bikes yes but not many mudguards amongst them :? .
I find this strange as we only ever get rain or snow[rain in summer/snow in winter

Could it be that m/guards are not retro? or is it that they spoil the look ?and only go on the bike after the photos are done

:!: The mudguards on this 1979 Cleland must be pre-retro :!:

The design of the Cleland was inspired by English trials motorbikes which also have mudguards. Clelands have extra wide bottom brackets for increased tyre frame/tyre clearences. In heavy clay the tyres can double in size and still not jam. They are off-road touring bikes and you can't easily carry a clean set of clothes for each day's ride, when your touring.

However, the mountain bikes were designed for the dry Californian climate so don't need mudguards.

Th original and Mk2 Crud Catchers, and the original Crud Guard (rear) with it's alloy stays must surely be considered retro – judging by how much they go for when you do find them

I had a black one of those but i sold it attached to a bike :(
Luckily i got one here for a tenner :D ,ive had them since new and imho theres no better looking or performing one out there.

I was meaning guards on a hardtail rather than on a hybrid or cyclo-cross
