Im back looking at the mudguard project after an idea popped into me noggin.
I topic'd an earlier post on them and some chap posted a pair he's made which were seriously nice ,well made and some nice design detail in the form of I think it was copper for the fittings.
And if anyone else has produced any id like to see
For a table im doing I made a model of one of the legs and for speed ,ease of gluing I used Balsa.
Bought a pack of bits and pieces which had in it some at 1.6mm thick.
Balsa especially that thick bends very easily and is ideal for being bent around a former and glued.
The model table leg at probably 5:1 weighs nothing and its that plus its flexiness that got me thinking.
So ive ordered some 900mmx75x0.8mm (10 of)
Points are needed for attachment and to compliment the lightweight timber ill make small tabs in carbon fibre(Dependent on getting little bits I can shape and are cheap), then resin and allow to harden without pressure. Bit of sandpaper to shape :?
Could even incorporate between the layers of wood so its set into it rather than screwed or bolted on which would add to weight and be unsightly.
Fittings and glue would probably weigh more than the wood or fabric.
Just a mad little project ive made a couple of successful attempts at so don't hold your breath
But examples welcome.
