Down here in NZ, this will be the first actual build thread I see through without selling during the process haha...
Got this GT built Mt Shasta locally for next to nothing.
First job was to de-sticker as one side was pretty rough, then through the grades of steel wool to bring up the shine...Whilst doing was looking for a suitable fork and got one of those great forks from Edson Steel in Indonesia.
So now have the dilemma of whether just to clear coat, wax or paint the frame as I know that it will slowly surface rust and I can't be arsed sorting every now and then. I'm toying with either spray bike keirin flake in silver or just clear coat and keep the fork raw. Up in the air as know that the clearcoat won't be fool proof and that slight spider type surface rust might appear so still considering what to do..
Whilst sussing found a GT stem and cap that I've given some love to..
Post this the parts acquisition has began.. I got a Flite from our local equivalent of Ebay, and an old pair of shimano cranks I polished up as well as some Mavic Crossland wheels which I mocked up. Wasn't feeling the cranks so sold them and searched some more
Started hunting cranks and on a random forum stumbled on these Racface I-beams in Norway and got them for a real steal, next step will be lightly steelwool and then polished, will need new chainring, looks like Bluelug has narrow wide 130BCD, only others found be keen on which are anodised are like $200 NZD delivered which is a bit much...
The Local LBS also unlocked a time capsule of re-found Cam twist QR's so got a bunch of them, a silver going on and also a nicer profile seatpost
Finally, the most recent score is a new set of wheels that will replaces these. Honestly so far I've stumbled on parts that I should have paid a lot more for but somehow am on this lucky streak and have gotten some gold for not much ... Only time I've seen this specific set for sale here in NZ, happened to be local and I made a cheeky offer and got them, pretty straight too, just need new decals which I've just drawn up and will suss in next few days... Now need to work out what tyres to run...
