Mountain mayhem 2016 aftermath thread

One of those strange wee anomalies in life in that I'll be delivering Pizza by scooter for a while whilst I seek out something better but I'm ceoliac so cannot eat the product. Much like a car salesman that cant drive or a homeless estate agent

Re:

Well done, a job that pays owt is great!

It was nice not to be the tallest while riding as well:)

Only just checking in!

Had a fabulous weekend - thank you to each and every one of you for the friendliness, hospitality, banter, top-ups of hot water, directions, instructions, life counselling, philosophy and making me a happier chap!

Special mention to Nick (Spud) for all the effort in organising it for us 'band of brothers', to Andy and Jericho for the amazing, delicious and wholesome food, entertainment and videos of Shred (need a copy!), to Gravy Monster (James) for the hazard tape and advice at 9:01am Friday, whose help was crucial in securing the area for everyone and the omnipotent Intruder!

I'm sorry that my blood sugar control went awry and meant I couldn't get lap number two in, and I've felt rough most of the day today despite getting 13½ hours sleep last night. I can only keep working on the pre, during and post-riding insulin regimen coupled with more riding in order to make next year's Mayhem even better!

I haven't uploaded any pics yet but I'll get into that tomorrow, although I didn't take many. I'm a tad busy tonight watching the football. (England v Slovakia btw; the Wales v Russia game is of no interest to me - I'll watch the highlights of Gareth Bale's free kicks on the news later. :P)

Some poignant highlights and most memorable points for me in addition to meeting you all and also boss man John on Saturday evening - at long last! - were getting my hands on a bottle of F**king Hell and some cans of Pussy, petting Milo the dog (a beautiful creature!), longun's half-a-Kona stool (seriosuly, I need to make myself an Al-Mega version out of the scrapper frame I have hanging in the garage! 8) ), becoming attuned to THM's humour (!), finally being able to get my hands on and lift a Klein Attitude to feel its weight and playing with a Cannondale Lefty fork lockout button thingy - not retro, but engineering brilliance and superbly tactile - even THM wanted to take it home!, taking a dump in the world's cleanest and freshest Portabog  And finally, becoming a Mayhemer - and having a medal to prove it!!

I'm surprised they don't sell gluten-free pizza! :(
Pizza Express & Dominos do.

Anyway, great news that you have a job! :D
You'll be back, I'm sure.

Re:

That was an awesome weekend, My Dawes Wildcat never faltered, it's nice to beat riders on modern full sussers  It was great to put some names to faces like History man, Reagen and a few others (still tired writing this) Thanks to Andy and Chef for the food :D and Also a big thank you to Elpedro for bringing his own support crew. As for our 4 man team, I think we did well, 20 laps in total, riding various machines, Our team captain was struck down with the lurgy, but Dicko and Elpedro put in an extra lap each to help out. i am hoping to be back next year, defiantly on something a bit lighter, with decent gearing. so I have a few pictures for you.

Setting up the camp

Re:

Here’s a selection of a few snaps that I took over the weekend,

Regan was the first person there and supervised the arrivals

Muz and Longun

Wasn’t long before Regan spotted Longuns Heavily modified Kona, Wookie and Feetabix grabbing an early beer

Jericho and Andy arrive

Andy turned up suitably late, but it didn’t dampen his banter which started before he’d even got out of the drivers seat.

Three wise monkeys before the neighbours moved in

Andy enjoying a wee tipple

God only knows what the conversation was about, no doubt it was off the wall

There were a few moments when the beer summed things up quite nicely

Longuns Kona had a few design issues…

Some had issues by design (even the random rider in the background had to do a double take and this beasty of total wrongness)

How wide for a set of bars ?

Despite a lot of predictions of impending doom Regan carried out extensive testing out his recently built Tioga Disc drive,

Checking out Gruffs box of early 90’s MTB mags

Velo Maniac meets THM’s Bike that he was to ride.

Nobby’s Chopper got to do the rounds

Nobby Jnr in action.

Watching Dirt and enjoying a pre race day beer

The Race day breakfast of champions NOS from 2000

Gruff and Chris caught having croissants for breakfast…..

Gruff bonding with Feetabix’s dog and enjoying having his feet licked

Nobby Photo Bombing complete with his 1st lap costume he threatened to wear

Gruff on the Pussy

Grumpy old git

Scott post opening lap

Mr Alpinestars

Widow Maker and Regan setting off

Paul smelt the BBQ and came to investigate, (that’s only a small percentage of the meat Andy brought)

Jericho (aka Any123’s Chef) grabbing a sneaky jump in between passing riders whilst the BBQ was coming up to temp

Longuns bar stool and THM’s broom

Mike Muz going so fast he’d gone past before the camera could focus in on him

A very hot & sweaty Mark doing his best to look cool

The F***ing Big fella on an even bigger bike

There is only one History Man, with everyone but MudSlider looking the other way.

Retro Yeti Rigid coming home

The big man making it look easy,

Regan catching up a few slower riders ……

And working out how to pass them

Regan with his war Face on

Landing the mid race mini jump on the Disc Drive

The bike fella enjoying the day and Food

Andy with his rather large glass

One Stare Al on his Kona

Gruff preparing to do battle.

THM as the Clown, we knew where he was as just about every passing rider when questioned instantly knew who we were referring to and gave an update.

EVENING

Widow-Maker enjoying an evening pre ride drink and a spot of quiet contemplation

Nobby offering up Steak at his impromptu “Feeding Station”

DryStone Paul coming on his evening lap

Andy Z enjoys the fire being lit

And then being killed off by the heady combination of green wood and kitchen laminate worktop being burnt, you can thank me all later for getting home smelling of wood smoke like one of Aberdeen's finest Kippers. :D

Mike Muz now in the hot seat being smoked like an Aberdeen Kipper

The ramp gained some run way lights,

Watching the racing, minus the ramp (Fun police took it away)

Few hicks round the camp fire swapping war stories about their daring deeds on a retro rig

Sunday Moring

At almost 4am the Batteries ran out on Andy, and the camp went quiet

Regan (wearing a Dutch Bobble hat) preparing his “Alfresco Breakfast”
