This was one of those things, im sure sone of you may have seen it on ebay a couple of years ago. It'd been owned by the same guy since around the time of its manufacture but dmfor some bike shop owner/connection of his who imported it along with alot of other very nice items of the day. Anyway it'd barely turned a wheel and only real signs of wear were the slight wear marks on the chain rings, but it had seen better days as its spent the last 30 plus years in various barns sheds and out buildings.

Fast forward to 2023 and im hooked, so get the seller to send me more pics which unfortunately I can't find but also which show the rusty bolts, chain, cables etc. Oh dear, not looking so great so I probe on the price, and after a lot of too and fro I end up meeting the guy in Ashbourne, same car park as it happens i met Chris's Wood for the purchase of his lovely original Astral paint FUNK.

Anyway, its ok but the lacquer ir all wrinkly and im thinking no but a deal was struck......

Unfortunately these are the only pics I have of pre cleanse and restore and they don't look that bad so unfortunately youre just all gonna have to trust me! It was pretty bad, seized, rusty or just unsuitable for use. 20231024_120122.webp 20240131_112710.webp 20240213_114126.webp 20240213_114203.webp

Life is a busy thing so ive started using a mate of mine for some of the stuff I don't have time to do and this was one of them, he stripped it down and gave me back the frame fork and stem which were treated to an interior wax oil followed by something im not bad at, a full automotive style detail. In the mean time hes serviced the internals and once id decided on a full build spec delivered the parts and hey presto, while ive been working being a taxi service for the kids and trying to enjoy little bits of my life out on another bike I get the message to say she's ready just a few weeks later.

I didn't really expect it to look so good but here it is, I like Goats, always have and now, as it write this with a beer in the sun looking at it i really do appreciate how rare and special this bike is 20250810_180711.webp

Thanks to any of you who i bought stuff off for this, @boy"O"boy for building the wheels and Mike, for doing the donkey work when i couldn't or couldn't be bothered 😀

Very nice!

Would love to hear about the build spec and how it rides compared with the a la Carte.
Thank you

I'll post a spec sheet when I get chance, as it happens I was out on the Salsa the other day and on 1st impressions on the Whiskeytown lite, that stem isnt too long after all lol, but actually suits it, my other Goat seems a little twitchey with a shorter stem so that one may have to be changed. The Salsa is a great bike every time, love it.
