More frickin' shill bidding - HED rims...

These rims are back on- scam bids cancelled! Seller sounds like a real nice guy and appreciated the notes sent to him, he's just keen to get this auction back on track-you know you want to, so bid away!

sorry to be mr thicky dicky but ami getting this right,

they find an item they like then bidding in tandem erm plus one, they put on hugely inflated bids to put everyone else off, then they retract them bids leaving their guy in third place with a reasonable or low bid being accepted,

is that right, is that how this works?

Thats the jist of it.

I also got a reply from the chap selling the HEDs saying thanks for the tip off and apparently ebay confirmed the bidders as having pulled this trick before.

I also notice the cooks stem has changed from an auction format to a high BIN/best offer format, with 2 offers from t***t declined :)

Clicking on t***t's feedback it is no longer possible to see what auctions he previously left feed back for, yesterday this info was visible...does that mean ebay have locked him down or something?

At any rate, in at least 2 cases we have hopefully prevented people getting scammed out of their items.

Now do I need a second pair of HED rims... It would be kind of rude of me to at least not have a punt now :)

Passing on a message from the grateful seller:

I'd just like to say a big thank you to all the guys on Retrobike that brought this to my attention. I have been in the bike industry for many years and have a nice collection of bikes & parts (mostly Klein/Yeti/Fat Chance/Grafton etc.) which I've built up over the years. I hate the scamming and backstabbing these guys have brought to the hobby we are so passionate about, and hope that now I have had ebay cancel their accounts and block their bids, the rest of us will get the chance to own the parts we deserve. Please pass on my thanks. I'm not a forum member but I do check in frequently... Great website! P.S. Lots more retro parts coming soon...

Ha! a pair of Psychos suddenly dropped in price too

As clever as this scam sounds.. how many items do you think actually get sent to these numpties? After maybe 700 ebay sales I have never seen a bid retraction and if I saw that kind of behavior at the end of an auction I'd hit the "lost damaged or stolen" refund the payment and send zilch.

.. but I guess if they are going to all the trouble it must mean that some of the gear gets sent :?

The seller of the Psycho tires obviously found he was being lined up for a scam:
"These bidder IDs drive up the prices and then withdraw their bids seconds before the end": Bid Cancelled.

Good work, Retro Detectives!
