Ok so I got some good advice here last time so how about another!

The brake lights on my wife's 2002 Honda Civic have stopped working. The centre one at the top of the boot lid is fine, just the main two that don't work. The bulbs are fine and I'm pretty sure they don't have a dedicated fuse but share one with the main lights - which still work.

Any ideas :?

My wife had the same issue on her car. The fuses were OK, the bulbs were OK, yet the brake lights won't turn on. Turns out it was the clicker switch down by the brake pedal that was broken. Was a cheap and easy fix. But then again the third brake light seems to be working so it might be something else...

I had much the same problem, some years back, with brake lights playing up - although in that example, the opposite - they'd stay on, but it was the plug-in brake pedal switch.

As you say, though, doesn't explain the central brake light working.

So I'd be inclined to think of the normal electrical gremlins - fuses, bad earth, wiring faults. Some cars have wiring conduits that couple around doors, that can get damaged, or contacts on doors / tailgates, where bad connections cause odd things to happen.
