My 1992 Explosif frame.....

Had a broken canti mount so got them removed along with other gubbins and added a cable (as is my want) disc tab to rear pluse rear cable stop.

Its your bike - do what you want :!:

Yeah, very well said.

I think i'm actually gonna leave it as a v-brake only bike.
I'll do a rattle-can spray job myself  and see how that goes. i've got some nice bits lined up for it, so we'll see....

Tiny hijack here - so to double check, a 95 lava done will run a 100mm fork, for instance...? I assumed that 65-80 would have been about the max.

Certainly opens up a couple of options for me if it will work. :)

It'll lessen the headset angle, but that's no biggie as modern frames have a shallow angle to begin with.

However it'll also do the same to the seat tube angle, and that may be a bigger problem as it effectively moves your CG way further backward, thereby reducing front end grip drastically. You can compensate that a bit by moving the seat forward, but that'll look stupid.

I'd suggest dropping the fork a bit. Most mid-to-high-range forks have optional spacers for that, but you might have to take the fork apart and devise your own.
I'm planning on dropping a RS Reba by 50mm for my 729, but the available kits go to 20mm only. A custom spacer in the bottom of the left inner leg will stop the outer legs from extending the final 50mm.

Well, I am probably going to use a fork with less travel anyway, but just wanted to check.

Thanks, sorry OP, didn't mean to side track. Back on topic now

Not at all, Ive been deliberating for a while now about this....
I assume that the geometry on konas from 94 to at least 98 were adjusted to take a 60-80mm fork... If you then put a 100mm fork on, it would make the handling a bit sloppier, but then you could offset this with a slightly shorter stem than originally specced.. Although your bb would be a bit higher, which doesn't help in the corners.

From what I've heard, 100mm forks are fine, if you don like it, get a fork you can drop to 80mm
