hope mono mini pro brakes, stem, headset, seatcolar, ceramic BB. M970 cranks, mechs, shifters, pedals, cassette. mavic cross max xl whls, proto conti tyres, sdg i beam post & saddle, raceface carbon bars, scattering of ti bolts. rest of the xc boys on the same, but with new hope pro3 straight pull hubs/ dt rims which are slightly heavier. its deffo on the XC race build side... tho the way ant rides & pulls air you'd never know it ;) hes my usual wed nite ride buddy :)

basically go to a demo day & test ride as many new designs as possible. they differ so much I cant recommend a single pivot design (which I prefer) as you may love multi linkage etc. make sure the shock & fork is set up for YOU before you ride as the vast majority of poor reports of modern XC FS are from poor set-up alone. modern shocks pedal as well as hardtails when set up correctly.
the view of modern XC FS as being overweight is soooo outdated. i've got a 4in rig that weighs sub24lb with no stupid light or heavy maintenance parts (& I'm a bit of a wrecker ;)

SSMM normally has a big demo fleet if u can wait that long.

Fine advice !

dude, leave as is ;) my trail bikes waay heavier than 25lbs, horses for courses & all that :D ..i really like that colour too ;)

I am also thinking of getting a modern FS. The latest bike in the stable is the Bontrager Ti. I was looking at the Specialized or the Giant Anthem. i have not seen a bad review of either.

The Specialized Pitch is amazing value. A great spec with plenty of travel!

FS

I ride a 4 year old Fisher Cake 5 inch full sus. bike with the XTR group including disc brakes and tubeless tires and it weighs a tad under 27 pounds. Slightly used Cakes are getting relatively cheap here now because it has been superseded by the HI-FI, an evolution of the Cake. AT last years' Thanksgiving Day ride I ran into Scott Nicol, the founder of IBIS. His bike really impressed me as it had 5.5 inches travel, disc brakes and a beautiful carbonfiber frame and it weighed 24 pounds! That IBIS was a pretty pricy bike, but gorgeous.
