Mobile phones and petrol pumps

I only discharge myself on the bodywork if there's a 'pretty lass' filling up.

It's clear the vast majority of people don't know that you can fill up a car on any side of the pump

I know fine it's possible with a narrow enough car and long enough hose but just don't want a dirty, oily fuel hose with bits of grit embedded in the rubber dragging over my paintwork!

Re:

Give over! It takes forever to pump 70 odd litres of petrol in - I'm no wimp but don't really feel the need for that kind of bodybuilding. Not keen on dripping fuel over the paint as the hose goes back over, either.

Just don't discharge yourself on her bodywork, some people have no sense of humour...

I thought the issue with mobile phones at petrol pumps was the RF hazard? We use some fairly powerful radios at work and they have the same sort of rules regarding refuelling the vehicle. ( Signs warning you not to loiter within 1m of the antenna  ).
But these are big radio systems, not small mobile phones.

You support it with your arms, it's really easy, lots of things in life are easy if you think first.

...And drive forward a bit more so the hose doesn't have to rub on the bodywork...simples. I always fill up then repark, to let others have the fill space. If more peeps had some consideration, we would all spend a lot less time hanging about at the station.

Are you serious? Here's a tip. Ride a rigid mountain bike off-road, build them muscles up boy! Then you may build up enough strength to hold the 'heavy' fuel hose.

Top marks for re-parking  it's called consideration, a trait rarely seen these days.

That's exactly what I do - never did catch up with the suspension idea! Seriously, you try holding your left arm up long enough to get 60 or 70 litres of petrol into a car; the hose that seems light enough at first (plus usually it's on a retracting mechanism which you have to pull against) soon leaves you with a decent bit of cramp.

The rest of us just pay at the pump, thus negating the need to waste time shunting about and cluttering up the filling station :)

Re:

That's obviously ok too. Its when some berk decides to get a basket of shopping, leaving their car at the pump that shows an ignorance for others, when there are actually parking spaces.

And History Man, you'll need an hgv soon for carting all your tat about!
