I agree with you that crackberry certianly has some personalities within it, it was the moderator comment that lost me chap

1) Jailbreak - use either the Pwnage tool or Redsn0w.

2) from Cydia run ultrasn0w (if your baseband is supported). This will unlock your carrier.

These are the guys that have been jailbreaking iPhones since ver. 1. read through their blog for tutorials + download mirrors.

Is their any difference in the different 'jail brake' software???

I had an iphone locked to O2 pay as you go. I went on the O2 site and one of the chat boxes popped up, so I chatted to the guy. He unlocked the iphone for me, costing £15 of my pay as you go credit...took about 5 minutes. Then I put my new Vodafone contract sim in, plugged it into itunes and it worked.
From what I have heard the worst thing to do is Jailbreak it!!!

I've just organised to have my pay monthly iPhone on Orange unlocked, this can also be done on PAYG as long as it's been connected for at least 3 months. The charge is £20. I have been quoted that I'll receive the unlock code within 7-14 days, will let you know the outcome!
