I was thinking £1000 but still amazed it got to that price so early and surprised people would show there hand so early. I would expect it at the end when the adrenalin kicks in, but not in the first day. Does make you wonder!!

Exactly my thoughts

As much as I agree with the possibility of shill bidding etc I also cant help thinking that there are a lot of guys out there with a lot of money! It only takes 2 or 3 of them to WANT this bike.

Such a bike may never come up for sale again and this retro lark is only getting more expensive.

Also consider, maybe it's worth the money! It's stunning

But only an ebay idiot or shill bidder would bid like that at this time. It's a lovely bit of kit and worth decent money, but IMO this auction stinks.

Carl.

Sometimes people try and put a big bid in to show who's boss, in a cock-in-hand, chest-beating, 'my Dad's bigger than your Dad' kinda way.

People play auctions in different ways.. some just stick their max bid in from day 1 and leave it at that - know a few who do that..

Seems an odd way to play the ebay game to me but hey. . . whatever pickles their walnuts...

Not quite. With rare items like this it is likely that anyone interested may ask the seller if he has a BIN price in mind. He may have, or he might be open to offers. In such a situation it is possible that a bidder might bid high early to discourage the seller from accepting any offers out of Ebay. If there is a reserve price,, or two early bidders, it will go high early.
It's always worth asking if the seller has a price in mind; If you don't, someone else will.

EDIT: The bidding patterns do indicate there may have been a reserve and the 985feedback bidder was trying to find it, to see if it's worth sticking around and hoping.
Anyone know if there was a reserve?

THe bike does remind me of a Soviet propaganda poster, though..

That's funny, but true. Typical of most Klein auctions.

I had a snipe set but it won't even register now.

Custom steel not really your thing then?

As far as I'm aware, each Pioneer frame was unique and as for the completely custom HQ, with only around 6 made, they are absolute bargains in comparison.
