I'm running 32-16, but Lancs is a bit different to Surrey. The biggest hill round here is only 900ft high...
For a tensioner, I can thoroughly recommrnd the Gusset Bachelor. It's cheap and it works.

Quick update - just won a pair of virtually new XT V-brake levers on eBay .

Just took a saddle pack that didn't fit back to Halfrauds and bought a Taya single speed chain - £8! Just need the spacer set now...
