So now all the tax exile 'UK nationals' that've been living there for years and earning a fortune without paying tax expect the UK Government to help get them out of there....... F@ck you!!
You knew the risks when taking the job. Tough shit

Several of my friends are there, only one is considered non resident for tax purposes.

One just went over and has a baby here. His mum is worried sick.

They are either UK Citizens or are not, everything else is secondary.

What makes them less worthy of rescuing than some idiot who walks up a mountain wearing a t-shirt and jeans, as seen every year here in the Highlands?

I do however think the responsibility for their protection should have been taken by the companies involved, who should have whipped them out at the first sign of trouble.

Mountain Rescue is staffed by volunteers and funded largely by donations whereas I would imagine that 'rescuing' our friends in Libya requires at least a few tax £££ but I do agree that if a company places an employee in a country like this, they should be prepared to pull out all the stops to get them out of there when the sh*t hits the fan

I think people should be allowed to walk in our Glens and mountainsides without anybody hasseling them over their choice of dress. This poor fellow was probably just out for a sightseeing jaunt, maybe left it too late for his return journey and got lost in the dark,Tempreture drops signifficantly in winter in the Scottish highlands. And lets face it,unless you really really know the area, its highly likely that you'll lose your way

Do you have any idea how much it costs to keep an RAF or Coastguard helicopter in the air? The overall costs of rescue operations really add up over the course of a winter, but that was not really my point.

Of course you should be hassled if you set off up the hill in a t shirt and jeans in winter.

I have stopped people proceeding many times for their obvious lack of preparation.

Of course the guys in Libya deserve our full support, it is what being a citizen of a country means.

The same as our soldiers.

Really? Our soldiers have no choice in the matter. They go wherever; it is their duty.
Those "citizens" in Libya are there for one reason only...

So far, Gaddafi's blamed the BBC, young people on hallucinogenic drugs and Al-Qaeda for the rebellion in his country.

Whoever will he blame next?

My money's on the Chuckle Brothers...
