Merlin XLM Redux

Are you seven feet tall Ed? It seems as though your legs must be 9/10" longer than mine and I'm 5-7, so we're up to 6-5 before we get to the rest of you. You don't look out of proportion in photos either.

What fork a-c would you estimate is suitable for this frame (I have some other forks although at least two of them would mean a 'none more silver' build)?
I'm afraid I don't know the design specs of the frame, but I assume from the look of it that it's around 1996 or 97? In which case I must admit it is surprising that the bb drop was so minimal with the RC36 on 90mm. It seems more reasonable now, but still rather less than the c30mm that was presumably intended.

I appreciate that you're a very skilful rider.
One of the funniest things I've read in ages!
A show of modesty is indeed the correct gambit for an English gentleman, but I was making a serious point. I often look at builds and think 'crikey, it's a good job I haven't got to ride that' - but the rider thinks it's fine and wouldn't change it. I think this is partially down to the human capacity to become accustomed to just about anything (look at most marriages), but also that a skilful rider can handle twitchy or slow steering quite comfortably, whereas someone less able like me (and the average rider that it was designed for) needs it to be right on the button.

Ok, tried to incorporate most of the suggestions and come up with the build pictured below (I also made measurements and the frame is in line with my preferred bike, including the saddle/bar drop).

Actually looks better in reality than photo but the proof will be in the riding.

that's much better! :D
