Why did you sell it for $3K if it could have fetched more? Have you seen the matching pair of Kleins that have been repeatedly listed on eBay for $7k? You should have held out for whatever the higher price you believe it would have fetched.

I sold it for $3K USD because without other sales to compare I didn't know how much it could fetch. I therefore offered to sell it at my artificially designated price and someone accepted it AND paid cash ... now we all know it likely could have fetched more, something not known beforehand.

Are you suggesting that after someone offered to pay my designated price, I should have said, "Nay, it's now $3.5K"? If so, that's not my style.

No I'm not saying that.

" I didn't know how much it could fetch. I therefore offered to sell it at my artificially designated price " = isn't $4,000 just as artificial as $3,000? You could have listed it at $4,000 from the beginning.

"... now we all know it likely could have fetched more, something not known beforehand." = how do we KNOW that? The only way would have been that you actually listed and sold it for a price HIGHER than the $3,000. With luxury items that people can live without, there IS a price above which the item won't sell. Again, I point to the pair of matched Kleins that have been listed for months at $7K ($3,500 each) and haven't sold. If they DID sell at $7K, by your logic, the seller could have sold them for even more than that. MAYBE true but how many years would it take to find the right buyer. I think the same applies in your case - maybe you COULD have sold it for more than $3K but how long would it have taken you. Again, congrats on your sale.

Not sure what aluminum bikes have to do with this, but assuming arguendo that they do, I point out that you offer no proof that they sold. So the bottom line is that the two Kleins still have nothing meaningful to add to the analysis.

I factored my artificial $3000 USD price to make sure I got back at least my original investment in the frame ($2,250), plus what I paid for other ti-parts. I didn't think anyone would truly be interested in keeping the 18 year old XTR gruppo OR the 17 year old manitou fork.

Now I'm sure there are some pirates out there that might try to sell the bike for substantially more, but I'm not among their ranks. In addition, I no longer was riding the bike. I presumed the buyer probably would ride it in a mountainous/hilly area at least once.

Was that a sound of your morning conversation with the voices in your head? Please tell them I said "hi".
