Mavic Rims

It's time to replace the CXP33 Rims on my Rourke. They were worn out when I bought it and it's seen some miles since then :-).
I want to stay with Mavic, but I don't know what to go for.
So - Open Pro, CXP22 (now called CXP Elite) or CXP33 (now called CXP Pro)?
They'll see winter action, but the bike isn't an all-out winter hack (no mudguards, and cleaned meticulously). I'm after a balance between performance and sturdiness, but I'm not too sure which one offers the best all round, having heard bad things about all three - apparently the open pro cracks at the eyelets, the cxp22 weighs a tonne and the cxp33 has a less substantial braking surface.
From personal experience, which rim would you recommend?
I know other brands are available, but I have always used Mavic and rather like them, in all their bright yellow glory, and it at least narrows down my options.

Thanks
James

Re:

I'd go Open Pro too.

I don't think they're any more likely to fail than other rims, it's only because there are so many Open Pros out there that people notice it.

Re:

Mavics achieve light weights cos their rim walls are thin. They don't necessarily make good winter wheels where brake blocks full of grit wear them down.

but I tend to use Mavics cos they are easy to build with, ride nicely and unlike some rims are easy to get a tyre on and off (last thing you want is a tight tyre on a big rim in a rainstorm), so I forgo the durability that others may offer

I've used open sport and open pro (And an assortment of CXPs through the years.) They are all bread and butter rims. Light enough, cheap enough, round, easy to build. Probably why they are so popular.

I'd happily build with any of them. Probably open sport for a winter bike.

Next wheels i build will be either H plus Son TB14 or Archetype.
Last wheels i built were a pair of Ambrosio Nemesis on D-A 9000 hubs.

From the examples i've seen, equally as good as mavic, if not better. But a little more expensive and potentially harder to get hold of.

Thanks for the input.
If I go with the Open Pro, would I be better to go with the silver, anodised or black? Does the anodising wear off? Which will look the best for the longest?

Thank again for your help.
James

Both silver & anodized black now comes with machined sidewalls.

So no riding down the road with wet & dry taped to your brake blocks to get the ano off and good braking to happen!

Black looks best though with amber sidewalls. 8)

Thanks for that!
Looks like I'll be buying the Silver Open Pro then - they'll be built onto Shimano 1056 hubs which are a matte silver sort of colour. I do like the sound of black with amber sidewalls, but I'll be running black tyres until they wear out, and black rims with slightly less black tyres doesn't look too great really.
Thanks for all the advice!

Went to the lbs last night and ordered some silver open pros. Very exciting.
It got me thinking about rim wear and brake pads. I have aztec dual compound on one bike (the pads wear quickly but seem good) and shimano 105 pads on the other (the pads seem to wear slower but rim wear seems faster). Any recommendations? I clean the pads and rims pretty thoroughly after every ride, and i'm not so bothered about performance as eking as much life as possible out of the rims.
