got the bb faced on the kona and got it back from the bike shop today, thought while i was at it I would have them, fit the chainset too, went in at 12 hadnt even started it even though they had the bike 5 days, come back at two they say, fair enough i say

anyway pick up the bike, bottom bracket is on and chainset, when i notice that he has put the two spacers on the non drive side, so i says to him, arent they meant to be on the drive side as its a triple chainset and 68mm bb shell, no he says and gives me some old flannel malarky,
had just fitted a new raceface one the other day with two spacers on drive side having checked on parks website first, so went away thinking i was wrong, them being the experts and all that
have just spent two hours rigging the bike up, and low and behold, cant get the chain to drop into the granny ring, have adjusted everything hi los ,with no joy, so i check parks again, and i was bloody right needs two spacers on drive side, this would give it the extra bit it needs to drop into the granny too you see.

so should i do it myself, or bring it back to the shop, they have also chewed the bottom bracket a little like the tool, they have used wastn quite right, bit anal i know, but i dont like chewed looking external bottom bracket cups, and i risk having to wait another 5 days for the bike, had just give nthis shop a second chance after they fooked me about years ago waitng two weeks for a new rim and relace,

its a matter of principal I think, what says you lot?

Thats a bl**dy disgrace - I'd be after them to sort it & replace chewed cup

Yup.........let's face it, we can make an arse of stuff at home for nowt, without paying for the pleasure of someone else doing it.

Just fitted a shimano external BB yesterday, spacer on the drive side (it's in the handy bit of paper that manufacturers put in with stuff).....sound as if indeed they have used the wrong tool, or been slipshod with the right one.

Its simply not good enough... I would go back in there and ask them politely to put it right including changing the mashed cup... If they apologise and sort it out fair enough... If they get funny then i would start to get a bit mad and make a big fuss in front of any customers that are in the shop and demand my money back .

edit.. oh yer and a 5 day wait isnt good enough either... make them do it there and then.. Its not that unreasonable as they are "pros" who should have done it right in the first place :!:

x 2.

Never, ever pay for someone to cock a job up AND damage your kit.

brought it back in today, said i want it back i nthree hours, gears dialled in and running sweet as, also asked him to true front wheel, which i aint gonna pay for,

will give update later,

also another niggle is where they clamped the bike via the seatpost has scratched the painted decal, not too fussed coz im after a thomson for it, but leaves that one which was new before fitting less valuable to sell

X3 Take back and give them hell

I'm amazed by the amount of things I've read on here about shops doing things like this, or over tightening clamps and crimping frames (didn't this happen to one member's Merlin?!). The last time I took a bike into a shop it came back with the crank bolts rounded off, after that I decided I'd be better off buying my own tools. Finding a good bikeshop/mechanic is even harder than finding a good barber.
