matter of principle advice!!

i'm ex trade as some of you may know, i hate these type of threads but sadly it can be the case, the second shop i worked in in my career had a mechanic (if that is what you could call him) who was a butcher, i had to remove the hammer and the adjustable spanner from the workshop to force him into using the correct tools. i fired him in the end, it was a joyous day for me that!

i always clamp bikes by the seatpost but when it's expensive posts/carbon posts i use a spare 27.2 basic alloy one or if i am forced to clamp a frame i use some pipe lagging in the clamp. i hate marking my stuff let alone making a mess of other peoples stuff.

i'm lucky that there are 4 local shops that would let me use their tools and workshops no charge at all because of my previous history and help to them in the past but the only thing i ever need doing is facing of the headtube and b/b shells, i have everything else at home so i never have to let a monkey touch my stuff ever again!! 8)

I do all my own bike maintenance and most of my own car maintenance for this very same reason. I just need tyre levers / balancer to do my own tyre changes and a laser wheel tracker for tracking to finish off my garage tools for the car and then I only ever have to go for the MOT, but I have plans to have my own MOT bay if I ever win the lottery too. That's how much I loath those monkeys

well we are back, and the bike has been done, saw the cap sideways jeans round his arse bmx ass bandit mechanic at the door smoking, didnt acknowledge me , asked him if it was sorted in a cheery way and he grunted at me in affirmation, was then challenged by another worker, who asked me if i had my computer reciept sheet thing, told em no ,i was back in for the third time coz the ignorant spanner monkey had put spacers on the wrong side, said ignorant, didnt say the monkey bit, a nice bloke who works there himself with an old kona then pipes up and explains to the othe rworker and the spanner monkey goes and gets my bike. and i leave the shop. I hadnt been arsey or owt, i just dont think he liked being wrong, I did ask hi mif he had checked parks, he said no he just did what i asked, as if i was still wrong

on the way out i notice a bit of paper on the front though, which made me chuckle.
£18 to service my gears and £15 to service brakes, signed dave, the original gold crimps i put on are on the bike,so if he did service anything it was minor twiddle,

anyways he has done a good job on the gear adjustement, and can hit all gears without rattle which takes me ages to achieve, so happy enough, and it gives me an excuse to post some pics of the cindy all done 8) 8)

Good result fella. . . . that 'Dave' eh??... cheeky chappy.. know a few myself ;)

Loving the gold details on the Kona... s'lovely 8)

Are those skinwall city slickers?

And trust me, you're much better off learning these jobs, than handing them off to big chain shops. Not overly complex, might only need something like a BB tool.

If shops can't get simple stuff like this right, it's much better learnt yourself, you don't need the hassle of having to chase them or bring your bike back over something like this.

Bit thats the best thing about it, i have all the tools, and fitted a new chainset just the other day, which was why i said about the spacers being wrong when i first picked up the bike, but he manged to convince i was wrong,

i had to haver the bb faced though this time and i dont have the tools for that

ahh well, alls well that ends well

and yes they are skinwall slicks
