Marzocchi Bomber Z equivalent to Mag21?

I'm looking at possibly replacing a pair of Mag21 forks which I'm quite happy with on my commuter bike. Marzocchi Bomber Zs seem to be well regarded and sound reasonably equivalent, but which are similar anand which would be upgrades? Z2 similar, Z1 upgrade? Riding is 99% London commute with the very occasional bridle path but nothing too extreme.

Bombers are industrial compared to Mag21’s - arguably a far better off road fork and a lot less flexi - but no lightweights

They will have a lot longer travel as well - which will be wasted on a asphalt commuter, personally I’d stick with the Mags

I agree,I have Z1 and Z2s and they are undoubtedly the best fork to come out of the 90s but they are heavy and would be overkill for you.Marzocchi XC500 would fit the bill but would you consider rigid?

Re:

As already mentioned above, are you sure a rigid fork wouldn't be better suited to the sort of riding you do? Lighter and zero maintenance too.
If you want Marzocchi though I'd personally go for a Z2 with 80mm or less of travel.
I think the Z1's were 100mm.
I guess the XC600/700 etc are probably most akin to the Mag21, I've used them in the past, and found the Bombers are far superior forks in general.

Agree with the coments. I have a Z2 and it is quite different from any rock shox of that era or Manitou. Much better but it is not lightweigh.

It is much close to a modern fork than any other from the 90´s, I still like how it works. The only drawback s that it is 60mm but 60 smooth mm.

I would say rigid also, some nice TB steel or carbon forks still have plenty of flex to asorb the bumps, and lighter too as mentioned above, you will be able to lie in longer as you will get there quicker :)

Re:

Just a quick question. There's a Z2 on ebay. Just wondering what this might be on the left leg? Maybe a broken disc brake mount or something else?

That’s the top part of the disc mount.... bloody ugly looking spur that juts out at an awkward angle

Re:

Yeah that's the disc mount, the other bit of it is obscured by the fork leg in the photo.
I've got a set of Z2 Light non-disc forks if that's the route you want to go?
