Mariposa • CAMPAGNOLO AND THE DOUBLE SPRING DERAILLEUR

I wonder if anyone has done the Rally cage swap the other way around , that is to say put a Nuovo Record cage on a Rally body ?
Easier to achieve but with a weight and perhaps ridicule penalty .

If you do a swap between long to short cage on Rally mechs that were of the offset/drop design (1st and 3rd generations?) you will have smoother shifting and can shift a larger rear cog that the standard NR mech. So an improvement in 2 areas, but with a weight increase.

If you put an NR cage on the "2nd" gen. Rally mech (looks just like NR except "RALLY" on plate and long cage) you will end up with nothing more or less than a "Rally" labelled mech that performs as well as, or as poorly as an NR mech.

If you are just trying to make the best unit out of spare parts than use the long cage for more capacity if needed.

Not sure what this is in reference to. Link is not functioning for me. It is supposed to be "double cable"?

Yes , on a version 2 it would be pointless .

Yeah, as Jesper says.
One small thing that’s often a bit misrepresented - the second version Rally’s are essentially long cage Gran Sports; they have the cruder G.S. parts rather than the more refined N.R. castings.

…and to confuse things further, in 1984 Campag ran out of the “RALLY” front plates for a while so released some with with N.R. ones!

It's about using a Sportsman top bolt on a G.S or Record to get a sprung top end and how Campag didn't really do sprung top bolts except the Sportsman and the Rally ....
Hence my silly suggestion .
