Apologies if I am asking a stupid question here, but i searched catalogue scans, readers bikes, for sale etc and could not find a date for this beautiful beast. Just bought from scrap yard, for me its better than my RC200 (will never get nicked, better pub bike, looks like a police mtb) But i dont know the year. I am guessing 1989...

Unsure of the date myself, but genuinely amazed that something at least 20+ years old in such good, original condition was found in a scrap yard. Great find mate, well done!

Its not all that, shoddy bits on it, horrid RST forks and the paint is chipped in alot of places. Good pub bike.

Looks like it's got STI so I'd say 1990.

Actually drop-outs and decals are slightly different so I'd say 1990 too. Rapid-Fire's are definitely 1990 on.

Nope, 89 would have had thumbies. STI didn't come out until 90.

What makes you think that the STI combo wasn't attached at a later point like the fork?
I think 1989 because the frame looks like charlieboy28's Muirwoods which is from 1989.
Of course i could be totally wrong. Any better arguments besides the STI?
