Hi,

new to the retro forum and wondering if you can help.

I am having the whole nostalgic stage of biking and want to try and find the first 'adult sized' mountain bike I had as a kid that was given to me by my dad.

I really dont know much about it but will list what I can remember:

-It was florescent yellow like a hi vis coat, this included handlebars and forks but a black stem

- it had 21 gears rapid fire shifters

- it was a marin, i know it said race bred on the frame and pretty sure maybe a bolinas?

- mavic rims, foam grips, beige tyre walls, steel coloured seat post, fasteners on the pedals and black bar ends.

it must have been early to mid 90's i think.

I am not sure if it was a low entry level or not, how much it would have cost and what year it was likely to be.

any info on the bike would be appreciated and what are my chances of finding one, even if only a frame and rough price?

cheers

ash

Welcome to the forum. There will be a Marin expert along in a minute to tell you exactly what that bike is (Palisades Trail is my guess).

In the mean time, there is an archive section; look at the top of the page and you'll see the link. There are a whole load of catalogue scans in the archive and you'll probably find the Marin you are after in there.

After that, it's the classifieds with a wanted ad, ebay, gumtree, local papers, cash converters etc, until you find your nostalgia bike.

After that, you'll be hooked, and soon you'll have more bikes and parts that you have space for... it happens to us all

hehe thank you.

I have tried researching best I can and have seen Palisades, muirwoods and eldridge but am not sure.

it was steel frame for definite and all neon yellow no splattering. and more likely 1990-93.

thanks on the advice though ill check it out

hi mate and thanks.

yes the Bolinas Ridge looks like the one.

I remember one of the wheels having a mavic sticker on but maybe that was just random :?

i know the rims were not smooth but grooved and bumpy on the tops if that makes sense.

anyways looking at it it appears quite low end. I will keep an eye out for one. is it a bike or frame that comes up often? want frame more than anything as not bothered about making it totally original just want to neon yellow feeling to remind me of yester year :D

I've often seen Muirwoods' for sale on eBay with the exact neon yellow colour scheme that go for a reasonable price so you might be lucky bud.
