So after a few (ahem) beers one night and browsing eBay for anything local led to the purchase of the above which pleased my wife no end! :shock: Not sure of the year but the plan was a strip and refresh with a powdercoating thrown it and then searching out some bargains for the rebuild.

Been looking at Benandemu's build thread on the '99 Marin with interest as a lot of what i want to do (removal of extra lugs, modding of cable guides for brake hoses etc) they have covered already.

Fancying the frame and swingarm in this sort of blue, to stop me (possibly) changing my mind on the colour scheme i have already ordered a blue gearcable set and some blue brakehose clips...which mean i will most likely have it coated yellow!

What sort of travel fork should i be aiming for with this frame do you think?

Min. 80mm and max. 100mm for the fork. It's an XC frame, so you'll ruin it's geometry if you outside of these parameters. As a guide, I run mine with an 80mm fork and always find it 'wanting' when you really push it. It really depends on how and where you ride it.

Thanks mate, don't really do much serious if i'm honest, bombing about the forest tracks behind Oswestry Old Racecourse is about as rough as it gets at the moment...although they are pretty rocky and rough in places. Keep meaning to visit Llandegla but never seem to get around to it! Will most likely aim for 100mm...now to track down a set of Fox forks, lad i work with has said it HAS to have Fox forks seeing as it has a Fox shock...

And oh joy, started stripping it down this morning and it would appear the shock is siezed and so is the bottom swingarm pivot bolt. So the bolt is currently soaking away in penetrating oil and i'm hoping that a bit of a taop will have that out...is the shock likely to be scrap?

Right then, swingarm pivot is playing ball and out. Are the shims for the swingarm pivot a serviceable item and available does anyone know what bearing numbers i need to be throwing at my local suppliers for replacements?
