MARIN DON'T KNOW THE MODEL FULL XTR SET, ANSWER FORKS £+++

Re: MARIN DON'T KNOW THE MODEL FULL XTR SET, ANSWER FORKS EX

I've got plenty to keep me busy for a while, but thanks for the offer.

I will stick my neck out and suggest your mate or yourself have a go at cleaning the rust off. If it comes up well easily then it's just a case of a strip down and rebuild for anybody.
But if it won't shift then it will mean a full professional strip of the coating and re-coat, in short, a bigger project needing new decals etc...

Re: MARIN DON'T KNOW THE MODEL FULL XTR SET, ANSWER FORKS EX

I had a 91 Team from ebay a few years back. It was in a similar state with the rust. After cleaning it I found multiple places where the rust had made small pin prick holes through the tube. It had to be disposed of since the cost of replacing all the tubes affected would of effectively of meant building an entire new frame.

Just a heads up that the frame may of had it, but it is certainly worth cleaning up and inspecting.

Not the place for valuations but I wouldnt factor in a lot (anything!) for the frame. The M900 stuff is obviously sought after though.

I have had a good luck at the rusty spots and cleaned some up and it don't look to bad to me it came off down to the metal and it was not so bad,

The parts of the bike appear to be where the value is so if your friend wants £250 for it, then why not put together a for sale thread for him with photos of what you've revealed by cleaning up the rust. Your friend will get more for it on Ebay, but he'll be stung with the fees so will probably end up seeing about the same return. It looks like it all needs a really good clean first.

As said abve, the XTR stuff looks in reasonable nick so even if the frame is shot you should get at least £250 for the other parts if you strip it and sell. If I were looking to buy it I'd think I got a good deal at around £150.

Re: MARIN DON'T KNOW THE MODEL FULL XTR SET, ANSWER FORKS £+

I have put some time into the frame and its coming up looking good the rust is not half as bad as it looks the frame is in good condition

...fat afterburner stays were 1991 onwards...My money is on a Team Issue, with that tubing, and a 1992 one at that. Shame it has been so neglected as it should be a nice bike...just looks like this has been left in someones back garden/pond! for the last 10 years!

Hi what are the fat afterburner stays you talk of please??

Seriously watch out for holes. Fingers crossed it isn't like the one I had, but it does look as rotten as it in the photos.
