Hi all,
I've come into the possession of some vintage M1s in amazing condition, which I thought was lucky on my part..... However the steerer tube is about 80mm too short for my1991 20" Zaskar frame, and needs to be 230mm.
What I'm considering now is:
a) try and find a suitable threaded steerer tube in 1 1/8" and keep the original Flip/Flop GT stem
b) have a new 230mm steerer tube made and thread cut (not ideal as should really be rolled thread but my mate owns a CNC/lathe workshop and could do it)
c) simply get a 1 1/8" tube, cut to size, and convert to a threadless headset and stem combo, probably with new handlebars as well.
one way or another I'm going to fit these M1s as they were but a childhood dream back in '91, but since I've been out of the scene for so long I hope some of you guys can share advice/experience with me on this....
Which option would you go for and why?
Cheers
Tony
