Gazelle Champ or Gisele Chump

Keeks

Retro Newbie
G'day folks,
I'm heading out to view a so claimed 1970s Gazelle Champion Mondial tomorrow. Now I'm new to the world of vintage road bikes, but have always had an appreciation for their design (just nuts about lugs!) Anyway the images in the ad show the seat stays meeting the seat post lug but not actually wrapping around it. I'd even say the chamfer is not as crispy looking as I've seen on other Mondial's of that era that don't wrap around the lug . So before I put my hand in my back pocket I wonder if anyone knows whether there'd be a model of this frame type fitting this description? Any and all help is very welcome and appreciated! Champ or Chump????

I don't think it's one of their top racing frames. The 531 decal suggests 531 plain gauge rather than butted and the lugs look cheaper than the CM. I'd say it was one of their "training" frames. If it's cheap enough, don't discount it if all you want is a retro rider for gentle leisure rides, but don't pay too much. The market is in a slump and for £150-200 you can get a "proper" retro race bike

This is a Tour de l'Avenir, build looks similar. I think the frame tubes are butted still. I had one and it is a fine semi race bike. Probably eighties I think. EDIT not a champion modial

Thanks for the pointers!!! Really appreciate that before handing over any cash! I think the photos they provided are pretty selective and random close ups. Asking price is enough that I'd be cautious about going for it.

That definitely looks like the same frame (to my untrained eye anyway!) Cant see what the crank set up is on this gray one or the RD etc. But set-up looks nice on that blue one!

This is one of the lower models not champion Mondial quality . If its got mudguard eyes and clearance that might be a bonus , the higher end ones did not . The Mondials are great handling race bikes designed for Dutch criterium racing.

shells on the Champion Mondial at this era were typically BOCAMA Professional
