Manitou frame advice please?

Hi all

There's a Manitou hard tail frame on eBay (can't post link I'm on iPad) has been cracked at head tube and chain stay but been repaired (ugly). I've always wanted one and really fancy this as a never to be abused again polished luv of my life bike :?: :roll:

Would these repairs hinder it as a road only bike? And if I filed the ugly welds down polished them up etc would it weaken them so much as it's bound to crack again?

I wouldn't be using it on any thing but canal paths and roads, is it more hassle than it's going to be worth?

I'd be hesitant about riding it due to not just one but two cracks. It indicates the frame may already have had a bit of a hard life.
That said if the repair is a good one then it may hold up to light riding for many years to come.

It may be worth getting the head tube reinforced by having a metal band fitted. There are methods out there which include a heated ring which is press fitted and then shrinks as it cools.
But there would no doubt be alot of effort and expense involved to make it fully off road capable.

You could just file and polish back the existing repairs and build it up as a wall hanger/occasional light duty use bike and keep your fingers crossed and an eye on the frame for failures at the repairs or indeed further cracks appearing.

I'll see how the bidding goes, Its probably not the one
for me though, im 6'2 17stone and used to race BMX then
moto x so it probably wouldnt take my 'light' riding style!

I cant post the link but the ebay pics do show
them, a lumpy mess on the top of the head tube
and on the chain stay near the bb, Im going to
leave it im to heavy handed Id kill it! I bent/
twisted a 2010 dale bad boy lefty fork last week
on Blackpool prom
