Made it nice and smooth to Newent for setup tomorrow. So roll call, who else is going, and what do we make of the show n shine news? Is Doddy really gonna take pics of every entrant?

I will be doing the retro xc on the Saturday. Should I wear the XL 96 lycra bottoms that'll likely slip down and clash with the 97 bike?

Def the oversize Lycra, can’t beat the classy “Nora Batty” look.

It’s a shame there isn’t a standard entry ticket without camping.

Sure glad you did dude. Wonderful to see that Ku again. Brings back some great memories....and massive angst waiting for it to arrive this side of the pond for Pip!!

So, curious to hear what @longun and the gang have seen and heard. From my perspective so far, there's are markable reduction in folks here today compared with previous years, which I believe you have to put down to the price, current inflation and that as an event, it hasn't really changed in 4-5 years.

The acid test will be tomorrow so let's see.

In case you want some "evidence", at around 19:30/20:00 there were zero queues at the bar and barely any of note at the food outlets. It was easy to find a viewing spot for the whip off. The queue for the showers was only 6 deep for the men and none for women.

Previous years it was a slog on all counts!

Playing devil's advocate, folks could be staying at their tents and doing their own thing...

...or avoiding the entertainment

I can only speak for myself , but the reason I’m not going is the price of entry. I can afford it without issue but I refuse to pay that much for it.

Imagine a family going for day out trying to justify it.

I hope sense prevails and pricing is reduced next year ( doubt it). We’ve seen cycling become a rich sport and the last thing that needs to happen is making even shows too expensive for people.
