MacRetro June 25th Ride, Velo's Trails

Well, I haven’t used my gt id5 for that long the front Caliper seized lol good job I had a brand new Deore 4pot Caliper sitting so I’m all good to go now

Had a good day even though my bike broke itself halfway through the ride lol had an easy 4.8 mile ride along the road very cautiously and got back to the car no problem, went and had a look for the broken pivot cap since I kinda knew where it broke but couldn’t find it but I did see the cutless owner and was talking away to him for a wee while.

Good wee jaunt through the trails of Midlothian but now kaput. Had the first but not terminal mechanical of the day when my chain snapped on a vicious sudden climb but fixed quickly and on we went. Marvelled at the modern full sussers of Dave DH and his pal as they both rode down staircases and down slopes that scare the pee out of me. Unfortunately marvelled at how John, his son and me did not die as the terrain swallowed our wee 26er wheels. Very bad luck for Big Eck when the cap that held his swing arm pivot pinged off leaving his bike to wobble alarmingly and ending his off road day. Jock did not disappoint having 3 strategic dismounts all of which never dampened his enthusiasm. Only bad thing was spikey plants from the undergrowth attacking the riders, though didn't bother me. Pub at end was well earned😊

Jack and I had a good day, jaggy bushes were a mare! Nice to meet a few more of the Mac retro team. I did manage a small over the bars moment on this ride, no harm done though so it’s all good. Both wiped out when we got home, but a quick hour (or two) on the couch sorted that 😁. Got bored so started on my latest build, 91 Lavadome. The frame, forks, headset, stem and BB came to me by way of karma from Blacktopdisciple in Glasgow. Top bloke, amazing karma! Aiming to do a zero cost build on this one, I’m sure I’ve got enough stuff stashed away. Think it will make a light, fast work bike.

This is what I broke, thankfully it’s cheap lol

I’ll add it to the list of unbreakable parts I’ve broke inc a 20mm axle and a 32mm marzocchi stantion ha ha ha ha
