Picked this one up at a local charity recycle shop last week, did a bit of digging and it turns out to have been built by M B Cycles in 1988,
653 frame & forks, Sachs New Success chainset, rear derallieur, hubs. Wienman Carrera brakes & levers anodised alesa rims, ambrosio bars.
Looking to replace the rx100 front mech and suntour shifters :)
Question is; did they make these as stock bikes or were they special order, this has a 57 seat tube with a 55 top tube.
I checked with Vernon Barker cycles who could only confirm it was built in 88.

Anyone remember them?
Cheers

Re:

Was only chatting this afternoon with someone who knows Malcolm Elliott well.

What has this to do with your post - not much !

☺Ive put a picture on ME's instagram page in the hope it may elisit a response - nothing yet though.
I notice from your tag that you have a couple of early Roberts, I got hold of serial number 101 a couple of months ago. Its undergoing restoration for now but should be back on the road later this year.
Cheers

Roberts #101 is early, I'd like to see a pic. I contributed recently to an article on Roberts - used to be one of my local LBSs.

Re:

They were the same frame as any other m&b, custom, one-offs, handbuilt by vernon, but you could ask for it with malc Elliott transfers. Malc was a big hero in cycling back then, especially around Sheffield. I was told you paid a small premium for this, as malc collected a royalty for every frame with his name on it.

You'll have a good frame there, look after it

I didn't know that 'Malcolm Elliott' frames were actually sold. I knew Malcolm was involved with M & B with regard to branding frames with his name but thought it didn't get off the ground so to speak.

Every day is a school day!

M & B frames were/are very good. I had a beautiful racing tandem built by Vernon, it rode like a solo.
