A quickie for the people with more knowledge than myself.
I've a set of original LX V's, M600's and a set of XT, M739, V's hanging about to go on my singlespeed build.
What I was wondering was, do the XT's squeal as much as I've read in a lot of reviews???
I've used a few sets of the LX's previous without any problems what-so-ever.
Are the XT's that much better as I've never used them, or any other parallel push V's.
Your input would be appreciated :D

the M739 has a bad design and there was a lot of play in the arms , which made setting the pads on the rims very hard .
shimano did provide a kit to solve the problem , but not sure you can find it now .
BUT they are the best looking V ever 8)

Shove some modern Aztec pads on and they don't squeal and stop brilliantly. Xt all the way matey, they are sooooooo smart.

I have had a set of XT V's since new and never suffered the squealing, even remember reading about that when I got them.

I'm not saying that it doesn't happen, just maybe one of those things that seems more common due to the "angry few" voicing their opinions loudly

I did buy Jagwire replacement pads and Ti bolts when I bought them but I could use this gear for the LX. Votes and info on the XT's are looking good, for the most part anyhow.

Personally I love xt Vs, the springs in the M600s I had went 'soft' and needed continual tweaking (brutally bending out to retension them) but I guess the simplicity of their design kinda suits the whole singlespeed thing.....up to you fella!

For looks got to be the XTs although mine squael like death unless very carefully set up (good warning for walkers/errant children though).

However if you want straightforward, simple and silent function then Deore or Avid are the best bet as they are a nice clean design

I'd go for the XTs though if you already have them
