Loose crank

Make sure you have the correct BB. Shimano changed the length of the splines part way through the "grey" XTR phase because they were too short and cranks were coming loose. Hopefully yours hasn't that problem. I'm struggling with the night before at the moment so my brains not straight but someone else might be able to tell you.
I did find that my 950 arms would not fit on a 952 bb for some reason, so what you've said may explain this to a degree. I may try another bb on my own arms after running some scuffed/abused arms on the same bb to verify that it isnt that.

If you do have more info on the bb splines, I'm sure we'd all like to hear about it.

I think that's the switch from Octalink to Octalink v2.
Octalink used by XTR and the roadie high end groups.
Octalink v2 used by the other groups when it became their time to become splined.
M95x only used the original version, the the bottom bracket was changed, but I'm sure that's only the bearing etc setup.

Cheers for the info, though I have been using an xtr bb for an xtr crank, so not using the wrong bb, but my 950 cranks would only accept 950 bbs, not the latest 952 ones, which are easier to fit, though not rebuildable.

I have the same problem and posted a similar q a few weeks ago. Answers were it is probably the crank arm, not the bb, but try lactate on the bolts before shelling out on a new crank arm.

Hopefully there is a solution that does not involve a new crank arm.

not sure how it will help but i'll ask the missus
