Check this out mate, it's a pretty handy reference

mombat.org/Shimano.htm

There should be a product code on each part, so look it up and Robert's your father's brother, ya got a date :D

If your planning to use the gear shifters
give them a good sqirt of gt85 wd40 maintainance spray 3 in 1 oil
inside them to get them all silky inside

my gt zaskar has exactly what you have there its a 1995
xt v brakes xt levers they work well i love them

Well your Zaskar predates the kit on it then as these Vbrakes (1st gen XT V's) were 1997 model year, so very late 96 onwards.

somewhere between about late 1996 and 1999 when 9 speed came in.

Bit of a wide range mate, more so considering there's no 9 stuff there.

I'd say you're looking about 1997-8, I have a set of those same LX shifters. Watch for the bottoms exploding. :x

You definitely need to keep your bicycle clips on when this happens.

And cut out the curry the night before a ride too

Sorry to hi-jack the thread boys and girls, but in the pics above, the XT brake levers have little shims in them (holding the cable pivot in place) i think they were you you could adjust the cable pull between V brakes and cantilevers, does anyone have some spare or know where i can source some from please as ive just fitted XT sti levers onto my caldera and havent been able to figure out why my brakes are so spongy and rubbish, theyre missing those four shims
