Well, despite my brain telling me I didnt need a winter project that might be a moneypit, I hit bid on the Look KG281 on ebay this week. Collect tonight to see what it's like in real life. A size 56 (hope it's not too small!)

No dropouts (gear side is a D656 that I have) still to find the non drive side and the front mech braze on! (dare i go neo-retro and 1x11  )

Might be a quick build with what I have or a slow winter trawl of selling sites and ebay for very shiny things £££££

Build thread might be slow!

Re:

Yep, I think it's a 2000 model (a bit new for RB I know!

I think I've decided on a slow winter build and source a company that can relacquer the carbon. (£500 1st quote :-# ).

But won't be going anywhere if I can't source the non drive rear dropout!

...if I can't source the non drive rear dropout!

You should be able to hand whittle something from a decent piece of alloy, just need to find someone with one to measure up.

Re:

Just got the drive side today, so can finally measure the correct dimensions.
If the machining quotes are too expensive, then I'll get the saw and file out

Re:

Well, now have the dura ace 7800 groupset, wheels, use seatpost.

Still on the hunt for the front mech hanger and the rear non drive side dropouts.

Never thought that a bike not that old would have consumable parts so hard to find.

Still missing: kg281 front me h hanger (20mm eye to eye) https://soshanger.com/epages/box11137.m ... cale=en_GB

Rear dropout L/H.

Will keep looking. Don't want this to be the build that got away!

Re:

Finally, thanks to a French member on LSSFG i have the very hard to find front mech and non drive dropouts.

Frame with the local paint shop to sort the chips in the lugs (keeping carbon raw) so will be able to start the build in the run up to Christmas!!!

20210425_154629.jpg just finished the prelim build for the K6281. (Xt flats to test ride!) Smooth as silk. Bit of a heart stopping moment when the shifters wouldn't work and thought I'd bough a duff set of eBay. (GT85 saves the day again). Bit of a mix and match components with syncros bars and stem, and Bontrager wheels of a mid 2000's Trek, but its not a garage queen.
