There you go, see what happens when you engage your brain before opening your mouth (figuratively speaking...)

My respect for you has increased exponentially as a result of the first intelligent post I've noticed from you since I joined (the odd minor expletive excepted).

I obviously have nothing against you as I don't know you, but I will answer back when it is deserved...

As in; I didn't impugn anyones credentials as a respected frame builder, indeed I praised their work and compared their pride in that work to my own in a different field.

What I pointed out is that perfectionists are often prevented from maybe thinking 'outside the box' by that same pride and passion (I have been equally guilty...) whereas someone with the same skills but with a wider reference base will often look at something very differently.

With regard to 'rubbish' being accorded the same degree of adulation as some MTB 'Holy Grail' where is the harm in that? One wants to recreate the experience of their youth and hark back to a time when they were maybe naieve and innocent, before the advent of maturity, adulthood and responsibility; when the world was a happier place without mass immigration, job shortages and soaring drug abuse; when you were rewarded for working hard and showing loyalty; etc; etc; The other maybe wants to build the bike they drooled over in the magazines but could only dream of owning but 25+ years later can now afford?

Who has the right to say one is better than the other? Not me for one...

Indeed I find myself looking at Raleigh Activator 2's and thinking it would be a laugh to get one for next to nothing and put decent kit and suspension on it??

Back in my 'yoof' there was ''...mass immigration, job shortages and soaring drug abuse...''

But, it still wasnt a good excuse to release the Raleigh Activator II on the world.

I just put it all down to my age and the menopause

when she goes through it..it makes me grumpy

What a patronising response - you are as idiotic, self-centred, self-obsessed and petty minded as I first assumed.

I think he was referring to himself.

Jon's comment about this forum being useful and open in comparison to many others is totally true. It's why I keep logging in. Hopefully it will remain that way and my forecast of doom will just be a bit of negativity on my part

Does seem that if you turn up with a dodgy old bike you can expect insults rather than education - And I don't pretend everything is awesome just to make people feel lovely, although I do try and pick out positives so people don't feel oppressed (mistakenly)

Whereas I guess those that make the grade bike-wise, will feel they can go ahead and scrap it out in the playground

As the forum gets bigger the amount of possible posters goes up, up up and to risk being patronising, where do they learn the culture of this society from? Prolific posters I would guess...

As stalwarts of the site you maybe have earned your stripes, but if you slag everyone off, that sets the tone for us young 'uns. You might find snotty little gits fighting you at your own game and swamping your threads with rubbish

Ah well I think the Devil has finally fired me as his advocate, as I'm starting to repeat myself. Thereby becoming one of the things I moaned about!

Awww, shame - just when you were doing so well...

First rate conclusion to a 'lively' debate... 8)

...and if the contents of my 'Inbox' are anything to go by I'd say I'm comfortably ahead on points...
