Long haul Zinn

So... I’ve almost certainly paid over the odds for this battered old relic but as it’s been on the wish list for 30 years it feels more like an adoption than a purchase and it can be a long term labour of love...

Looks like it’s the original blue but then gone over again with a mixture of paint and hairspray- so much so that I can’t even make out a frame number yet

I haven’t the money or the patience to embark on a huge search and kit it out in Campag so I’m daydreaming/trying to remember my dream race spec from 1989.

I would be great to hear other people’s ideas but at the moment I’m musing on Maguras v diacompe and self energisers, 7speed XT v 8 speed dura ace with XC pro with the extra click...

Then there’s colour... I adore Sinnerman’s Iron Lady but Iveto’s black one is also fabulous...

Help please!

Personally I say put what you want on it thats in your budget, happy to show it and feel proud to ride it.... , Suntour is a good option and unusual spec for a zinn, something like XC-D perhaps.

Jealous...... I neeeeeeed a Zinn in my life

You’ve got a few of the Campag bits there by the look of things, as a starter. Let me know if you are tempted to get a groupset together as I’ve a few spares. It’s not especially easy to come by but if you’ve got to source your contemporary build parts in any case, might not be a lot more to get to catalogue.

I dont think doing your own thing is any bad thing.

You could have it sand blasted and powder coated for £40, Gio has the decals on file from doing his own.

Spec wise, its up to you, there isnt any hard and fast rules because its a Zinn. If you have the Maguras Already, you have the impossible to find matching fork and stem, Powder coat it white and do it like Mint Sauce...., it will be the only one like it in the world.

Sinnerman you could be right...I had Mint stickers on my Shogun Trailbreaker when I could only dream about Zinns... question to self "have I got the brass neck to do a Jo Burt special?" Thanks for the pix...

Mat you might just have turned my head towards Campag though...

Think this will need a lot of pondering over many beers and days!
