London comes to Edinburgh.

Now that the Edinburgh festival has begun the yearly signs of London arriving have started. A few years ago it was a huge rise in the number of mobile phone users. Then grown men on those daft scooters. three or four years ago it was iPhones everywhere.

This year?

Every second bike you see chained up is either a fixie or a folder. I work in a theatre and we even have people walking into the bar to have a coffee carrying their folding bike! And a huge amount of them look seriously uncomfortable cycling as they are new to their new fashion item.

Sitting with a chai latte playing with your iPad next to your folding bike doesn't make you look cool, it just attracts derision.

My only consolation is that the hills will be destroying their legs.

It's up here in small numbers already, but not when all 3 are combined into one monumental act of tossery.

Fair enough. We're pretty close to Lahndahn here after all.

Is it wrong of me to want slightly damp conditions to make the roads all greasy so I can watch the fixies get it all wrong on some of the steeper roads?

I'm a bad man.

Thankfully due to my incredible bad planning my fleet of elderly vehicles needs its anual MOT/road tax/Insurance expenditure in August. Result next to no cash and thus the festival is a no go for me. I live in a wee town literally on the edge of Edinburgh.
Thus unlike Tazio, I dont get to observe the trends and weirdness found in our capital at this time of year.
If it does rain the Royal infirmirary casualty dept. better expect loads of bike related injuries. Fixies, greasy cobbles and steep hills are a bad combo

acts of tossery , in edinburg , shurely not ?

must just be the one and same person

I've just seen someone on a Raleigh Foldaway with drop bars.

To be fair though he was going at a fair lick and looked like a cyclist, just an eccentric one.
