Easy bit first! It has only 1, front, brake because as a fixed wheel that is all that is legally required. The fixed wheel gives "independent retardation" of the rear wheel and therefore under an archaic law counts as a "brake"! I rode fixed for many years but as an unrepentant coward usually with a rear brake (and front!).
Easy to change to a single gear free wheel, not too difficult to adapt to a HUB gear, more difficult to fit derailleur gears.
It really shouldn't take long for an experienced cyclist to adapt to riding fixed.
