Hi All,

Does anyone have an idiots guide to making a set of high power led lights, you know, a parts list and wiring diagram for the simpleton that i am :D

As the nights are drawing in, i'd like to make a set before it's too late

I plan to make the holders out of water jet cut ally so i can incorperate a cooling fin and mounting point in one, if anyone else is interested, making 10 sets of part will bring the costs down, let me know and we'll sort something out.

The other option is to join forces, if any one is good at the electrics i don't mind doing the hardware to fit it all in.

hi
it depends on how many leds you want to use burn time etc have got access to a lathe or milling machine.

Lathe, milling machine, laser cutter, water jet cutter........ :D

I think i'd like lots of power, and just carry a spare battery, or a larger capacity one. What do people use? RC car batteries?

There is lots of info. on LEDs and batteries on the CandlePowerForums. You could do worse than looking on there.

hi
what laser have you we,ve 2 bystronics 4000 self loaders. i built a single ssc p7 900lms off a 6.6 cannon camcorder with a 3 stage driver which is a very good light but i,ve now started using cree leds and they punch Further.

Can help with part speccing, soldering and electronics. Can also produce a drawing of a casing in Cad if you have the means of making it. Built a few sets so far and several people on here have seen them. Running a 6 xpe atm but looking for something to helmet mount. Way to go is higher LED count run at lower current - more efficient and less heat to dispose of. For driver you want a maxflex or B-flex and the leds vary. I'm using the 10mm Based XPE's atm which are great for getting a few in a light but the reflectors leave alot to be desired imo.

Hhhhhhmmmm ...

What finish does that leave on the edges of thin (2mm ish) stainless and can you take the profile directly from .dwg or .dxf ?

I have plans 8)

Here's the finnish on 12.7 & 16mm thick aluminium, the edges, obviously, not the milled step. :D if you've got the part drawn 1:1 than yes i can take it direct from your dxf or dwg.
