A little something to get the salivary glands going...

All that's left is a little more padding, a generous amount of bubble-wrap, and a box, and she's READY TO GO in less than 4 days!

(If you close your eyes and listen real hard, you might hear this bike calling your name)

The money I get from this auction is going to a good cause: the acquisition of a Yeti Ultimate that will fit me!

damn dude! you could go into the professional frame packing business. That's some seriously robust packaging. :o

I like it...but just 19" c-c... :(

The package should be a good example for everyone shipping a bike!
Thats just a great job :D

Cheers

That might be good for me...

GoldenEraMTB,
Yup, I did it for both the frame and the fork.

classen, Martin,
Thanks for the compliments.

Shamus,
You've got my vote, for sure. I'd say you definitely qualified. Beautiful job. The only way that frame is going to suffer any damage is if the delivery truck backs over it.

btw, to all,
I'm still kind of new at posting, so please overlook that I don't list quotes correctly - I'm still learning.

Back on topic:
For the benefit of anyone following this auction, I figured I should explain why the high bid suddenly dropped: The current high bidder offered to buy this frame from me a few days ago if I ended the auction early, which I certainly don't have a problem with, but I declined, thinking it would fetch a higher price than what he was offering. Well, for some reason he lowered his initial bid, and the explanation on the bid history page was "Entered wrong amount". My assumption is that he wants to get it for a lower price to save money (which we all want to do, I'm sure), so I can't really blame anyone for thinking like that (no hard feelings here). Well, I'm already many dollars and several hours into this project, however, so I don't want to let it go for less than my reserve, so I may end up keeping this frame after all, and just chalk it up as a lesson learned, i.e., "don't repair frames that don't fit me". On the bright side, I can rest easy knowing that I gave this frame its best opportunity for a 2nd chance at life.

Three days to go, though, so we'll see what happens.

I never had a Yeti Ultimate, so when this became available last September, I jumped at the chance to get it so I could see first-hand why people are always raving about these bikes. If nothing else, I'm glad I got the opportunity to find out.

One of the things I noticed about these frames (that would have been lost on me if I never saw one up close) is that the steel tubing on the Ultimate seems to be thinner than that on other bikes of that era (I have a bunch of bikes to compare it to). I'm assuming that the thin tubing plus the "loop-stay" design lower the weight of the bike, and the "ovalized" top tube provides more strength than a simple round tube would. Now that I've seen a Yeti Ultmate "in the flesh", my desire for one (in my size) has only increased.

More pics. Maybe I could start a trend?
This is how I'd prefer to receive a bike frame, so I figure "do unto others..."
Frame, forks, stem, and seatpost indvidually wrapped in plastic wrap and then again in foam pipe insulation.
More foam taped around remaining exposed areas (top and bottom of head tube, sides of BB, and anywhere else that looked vulnerable).
Fork taped to one side of frame, seatpost taped to the other side, stem taped behind seat tube, and CD of all pics sandwiched between foam and cardboard and taped inside seat stays.
Parts/assemblies wrapped somewhat individually in bubblewrap and inserted into gallon baggie and taped between BB and headtube.
More Bubble wrap taped to the whole assembly to keep it all together.
Box cut down and re-assembled to fit frame, and also to enable shipping via USPS Priority Mail (length plus girth = less than 108").
In this case, length 42", width 8", and height just under 24", so length plus girth is less than 106".
I hope the buyer appreciates the effort, and I'd love to see how the build progresses.
I wonder if this qualifies me for BOTM?

Whoops.

I forgot to add that it's been sold (finally).

I had 3 people (including the high bidder) contact me soon after the auction ended to put in higher offers. The high bidder wouldn't meet my reserve, but a 2nd guy said he would, so I informed the 3rd guy what the 2nd guy offered me, and he made an even better offer, so I told the 2nd guy sorry :( , but I'll keep him in mind if the 3rd guy backs out. It was as if I was running the auction thru email instead of eBay.

Well, the 3rd guy decided it was too big for him after all, so I contacted the 2nd guy and said I'd do the deal with him :D .

Wouldn't you know it, right before I was going to do the transaction with the 3rd guy, a 4th guy contacted me with a MUCH better offer, and I immediately realized I had better turn it down for the sake of my credibility. Besides, I wanted to be DONE with this frame. Imagine if I had to tell the 2nd guy sorry AGAIN :x , and then the 4th guy backed out? How would that 2nd guy feel if I dared approach him a 3rd time?

On a positive note, I'm glad I'm done with this frame and that someone is going to appreciate it.
