hope you've included a spacer/brace to go in between the rear stays/dropouts
GoldenEraMTB,
Yup, I did it for both the frame and the fork.
classen, Martin,
Thanks for the compliments.
That might be good for me...
"off topic": Did I qualify...
Shamus,
You've got my vote, for sure. I'd say you definitely qualified. Beautiful job. The only way that frame is going to suffer any damage is if the delivery truck backs over it.
btw, to all,
I'm still kind of new at posting, so please overlook that I don't list quotes correctly - I'm still learning.
Back on topic:
For the benefit of anyone following this auction, I figured I should explain why the high bid suddenly dropped: The current high bidder offered to buy this frame from me a few days ago if I ended the auction early, which I certainly don't have a problem with, but I declined, thinking it would fetch a higher price than what he was offering. Well, for some reason he lowered his initial bid, and the explanation on the bid history page was "Entered wrong amount". My assumption is that he wants to get it for a lower price to save money (which we all want to do, I'm sure), so I can't really blame anyone for thinking like that (no hard feelings here). Well, I'm already many dollars and several hours into this project, however, so I don't want to let it go for less than my reserve, so I may end up keeping this frame after all, and just chalk it up as a lesson learned, i.e., "don't repair frames that don't fit me". On the bright side, I can rest easy knowing that I gave this frame its best opportunity for a 2nd chance at life.
Three days to go, though, so we'll see what happens.
I never had a Yeti Ultimate, so when this became available last September, I jumped at the chance to get it so I could see first-hand why people are always raving about these bikes. If nothing else, I'm glad I got the opportunity to find out.
One of the things I noticed about these frames (that would have been lost on me if I never saw one up close) is that the steel tubing on the Ultimate seems to be thinner than that on other bikes of that era (I have a bunch of bikes to compare it to). I'm assuming that the thin tubing plus the "loop-stay" design lower the weight of the bike, and the "ovalized" top tube provides more strength than a simple round tube would. Now that I've seen a Yeti Ultmate "in the flesh", my desire for one (in my size) has only increased.
