Laptop help!

Could be any number of things, but the last time it happened to me it was a ****ed mainboard. Exit one laptop (via nearest window). :(

your memory might be under the keyboard (screws marked with keyboard pic)

you uncovered your Wifi card :D

theres not much damage you can do as long as you take the battery out while you are re-seating the memory.

you are looking for the below:

you have to dsicount the obvious first before chucking out the window....

Aarrr! It is an HP- the ram will be under that hatch secured by the single screw, if ye want to give LGF's advice a go- aside from that, ye might be best takin' it to an engineer- bear in mind though repair costs in relation to buying a new machine of similar spec.

Very true! Just trying to prepare him for the worst...

Anyway, if you're not browsing on a green monochrome screen you're not retro enough for this site so best getting rid of the fancy new thing. :)

Well the way I see it the laptop was just over £100 from a reconditioning place back in January, so if it costs more than that to fix, it will be used as spares for a future one. Annoyingly the company only does a 6 month warranty on their recon machines, so I've missed it.

I'll have a fiddle, what's the worst that can happen. :)

It is an HP Compaq nc6000

memory is under the keyboard - carefully lift the keyboard up once unscrewed as they are connected via a ribbon cable
