lacquering decals

Want to protect the decals on my kilauea. Can I just paint a lacquer over them without doing the whole frame? If so, which lacquer do I use?

If you don't lacquer them and they do get damaged it's easy to replace them - If you do lacquer them then get a stone chip or some such other you've made a lot more work for yourself... :?:

A few guys have covered them with helicopter tape.

Never used it myself, so dont know the best place to get it. Ebay probably!!

Got some helicopter tape which I use for frame protection, but feel it's a bit thick for covering decals - you can actually see the edges of the tape which I think will spoil the smooth lines of the decals.

I got lazy and bought a pack of precut stuff called Bike Shield it is slightly discoloured but it makes the garage queen a rider and thats currently why I am enjoying my Rocky so much because I dont have to worry I recon it can be removed with care and still leave the stickers intact because it seems that the adhesive isnt too agressive

And what is the answer to the original question?
Can you just lacquer the decal area or do you have to do the whole bike?
