Kona P2 q

Excuse my ignorance, I know modern bikes but haven't had much dealing with the retro stuff so far

I have a 93 hei hei that I want to fit the original forks and stem to, from what i've read I need a P2 with 193mm of steerer to fit a 20" frame.

I've found a P2 on ebay from the right era with what looks to be a 200/205mm steerer.

Will this fit? Or does it need trimming down and the thread extending with a tap?

The seller reckons it's from a '93 21" Hahana

Cheers

Yer its threaded. I wasn't sure if the length of thread would be ok over a range of frame sizes or not. Sounds good though.

Cheers for the info!

Re:

The Hahanna fork will (I think) be straight gauge Cr-Mo whereas the better frames (certainly the Hei Hei) would have had a triple butted fork, which had 'xx-TB' stamped on the steerer, and in some years slightly more refined dropouts.
So the one you see on eBay may not be the best match really.

Measure the head tube of your frame. You will need 45-50mm extra on the steerer for the headset if threaded, or 70+mm it using Ahead headsets.

There are low-stack headsets available for borderline cases.

Re:

Triple butted forks are stamped CM/TB and single butted forks are stamped CM/SB. The steerer length is also stamped on threaded steerers, further up the column.

The most common lengths seem to be 143, 163 and 183mm.

Weights vary a lot and some SB forks are almost exactly the same weight as TB. It largely depends on the year of manufacture.

The original Kona Impact headset is 32-33mm stack height. A Tange Falcon is the same if you replace the chunky washer with a thinner one. It's a cartridge bearing headset and streets ahead of the original.
