Kona Lavadome 1991 Seat post size

The guy who powder coated the lavadome decided to leave the seat post tube unmasked so measuring is difficult.

What size post does it take please? 27 or 27.2 i think but can't be sure.

Cheers

It was 26.6mm but someone else got 26.8mm on their 1991 Lavadome's.

To be on the safe side before buying a seatpost is to take the frame to your local bike shop and ask them to measure the seatpost size as they should have a special tool which goes in the opening of the frame seatpost hole to get the correct size.

Before putting new seatpost in frame, use a wet/dry sandpaper to sand the paint off insides of the frame seatpost tube.

Hope this helps

Righty ho then - will take it with me. I put a micrometer in it but with the powder coat in there I thought I'd be best asking but they seem to have been sparodic with their changes.

WIll clean it out and take it to my LBS - was hoping to get a second hand one though.....

Thanks for the help peeps

You can also get a second hand one. I got one from here for not very much. Just a matter of how much of a rush you are in. You can also write [email protected] if still in doubt about the size. I usually get a response within a day. If you opt for the wrong size you might end up with a stuck seatpost after some time, even though you can manage to get it in. We see a lot of those in here....

This seems like a good place to share someone else's good fortune. Went into my LBS the other day and there was a 91 Lava Dome sitting up back (with a badly stuck seatpost I might add...why it was in the shop). Seems one of their customers got it for 100 Danish crowns...about £12...and he had to force her to take that much! Guess she just wanted to get rid of it. This was a complete bike, with a decent condition frame. Luckily for me it was a 19" or I would have been jealous.

Thanks everyone - I think cleaning the tube out and remeasuring will be my best option seeing as Kona made so many changes. I was just kinda hoping it'd be simple and they would have kept things the same on them.

It isn't a massive issue to do - I was just trying to make things easier.
